The album explores themes such as trauma, isolation, existence, rage, transmisogyny, and politicians' use of the term "thoughts and prayers". The treatment of themes such as trauma on the album has been described as hopeful and cathartic, and McCallion said that they had aimed "for people to resonate with it if they’ve been in that dark place" when covering such themes. "In My Mouth" has really annoying and off-puting vocals and "Legacy" is very abrasive while having really angry lyrics which somehow annoy me instead of making me feel for the duo. Okay i'll first say that i used to neglect this group for so long with no fucking reasons until today i decided to bite the gun and listen to black dresses' first album. Needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding. The album was a viral success on the video-sharing website TikTok. The success of songs on the album led to invasion of privacy and extended harassment against McCallion by what the duo described as "entitled fans", eventually leading to the disbandment of the duo in 2020. The duo announced via Twitter on May 26, 2020, that Black Dresses would be disbanding, citing the harassment received by McCallion as the reason. The band's music was also temporarily taken off streaming services. On 10 July 2020, after the duo disbanded, a remix of 100 Gecs song, "745 Sticky", was released on the remix album 1000 Gecs and the Tree of Clues. On 21 December 2020, the duo released a single with ESPer99 titled "World Peace", recorded in 2019. McCallion and Rook also released solo music under the names Girls Rituals and Ada Rook respectively. A post to the r/indieheads subreddit shared Devi's previous statement from her private Instagram.

It's chaotically catchy and it touches some deep topics like disassociation, pure anger, etc.. Black Dresses were a Canadian noise pop duo consisting of Ada Rook and Devi McCallion. Their debut album, Wasteisolation, was released independently in 2018. The duo released three additional albums, Thank You , Love and Affection for Stupid Little Bitches , and Peaceful as Hell , before breaking up in 2020. Despite no longer being a band, Black Dresses have released two additional albums, Forever in Your Heart and Forget Your Own Face .
Ignoring the lyrics of WASTEISOLATION, though entirely impossible, results in an infinitely-enjoyable experience complete with anthemic hooks, shifty bridges, and loud, bass-rattling beats. The genre typically reserved from thought, quarantined and sequestered from consideration. But tracks like 'THOUGHTS & PRAYERS,' 'IM EARTH,' and 'LEGACY' rapturously toy with sound addiction.

I listened to this whole album and I have to say there were so many moments where I started to not feel it very much, but then something in the song would make me have a rush of euphoria. Every song had one or more of these “rush” moments, and the sardonic tone of the vocalist added a nice juxtaposition between dramatic tones and emotional lyrics.
